This past year, I made the most basic rookie mistake when it comes to customer retention and email marketing. I ignored it and didn’t send a single email.
For the past 12+ months, this newsletter and my email list has been nonexistent.
Instead, I’ve been focused on the day-to-day operations of running my own brands on Amazon and Shopify, managing marketing and sales, and dealing with the challenges of e-commerce.
But, ignoring the audience you’ve already built is a huge mistake. It’s like building up miles with a credit card but never redeeming them for use to get that free flight. So many folks I work with are terrified of sending too much email. But the biggest mistake I see Shopify and Amazon operators make daily is not sending too much email, but not sending enough. And worst of all is not sending at all.
Why It Matters
When you stop emailing the people on your email list, they move on and forget about you. They will find alternatives. We’re all busy, but relationships must be cultivated otherwise they get stale. Not emailing the people on your list is real revenue that’s lost for good.
What Now
I’m resetting Email Update to be an email that’s useful for e-commerce and SMB operators.
If you’re busy working on an e-commerce brand or SMB, welcome back.
If email marketing isn’t relative to your current work right now, then please unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email.
By the way, this is called a re-engagement email. It’s when you send email to a “cold” list or a list of contacts that you haven’t had any interaction with for a long time. Usually, very few people read these emails, because they forget about you!
If you’re reading this right now, feel free to reply to this email right now. What are you currently working on? I’m genuinely interested.
All the best,
Bryan
